These things might seem obvious, but apparently they are not.

  • Don't sell a Senator seat to the highest bidder.
  • Don't cut an apple with a machete while in bed.

That shouldn't be too hard....right?  Both of these items deal with people from Illinois, the state I spent most my life in.
Let's start with not selling a senate seat.  President-elect Barack Obama will no longer be able to fulfill his role as Illinois Senator, so some one will need to replace him.  In a situation like this the successor is NOT elected, but rather SELECTED by the current governor! Enter Rod Blagojevich, Illinois' Governor.  (side comment - that's a terrible last name for a governor).
Here's what happened -

Then there is Derek Rose, the Chicago Bulls #1 draft pick.  He's a very talented player but common sense escapes him at times. Here's his story.

What to learn.  We're no better than Rod and it's only by God's grace that we aren't is his position and haven't made such a public error. And in the same way, we all do absent-minded things.  Many of them aren't as absent-minded as Derek  Roses actions, but we need to be thankful we're still alive and that we've been protected from such actions.
